Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the central government. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding India's economy.
New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again launched a sharp attack on the central government. He termed India's economy a "dead economy" and said that the country's economic policy, defense policy, and foreign policy have completely failed. While interacting with the media in the Parliament complex, Rahul Gandhi raised serious questions about the government's performance and put Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the dock.
India's Economy Has Been Ruined: Rahul Gandhi's Statement
Rahul Gandhi cited a comment made by former US President Donald Trump, in which Trump described the economies of India and Russia as "ruined." Rahul said,
'Besides Prime Minister Modi and the Finance Minister, there is probably no one who would call India's economy "b." Everyone knows that today India is a dead economy. What President Trump said is very close to the truth.'
Rahul Gandhi's statement comes at a time when the government is facing continuous criticism on issues such as India's GDP growth, unemployment, inflation, and the falling rupee.
Questions Raised on Defense and Foreign Policy
Rahul Gandhi also criticized the central government's defense policy and said that the government is not serious about national security. He said,
'The country's defense policy has failed. China is infiltrating our border, and the government is turning a blind eye. There is no concrete plan in sight regarding the preparation and modernization of the defense forces.'
He also criticized Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on foreign policy, saying,
'You say the foreign policy is b, but the US is openly increasing tariffs, China is aggressive on the border, and you are sending delegations around the world against Pakistan, yet no country is condemning Pakistan. What kind of diplomacy is this?'
Political Dispute Arising from Donald Trump's Comment
Former US President Donald Trump recently targeted India and Russia, saying, India and Russia can sink together with their ruined economies, and they don't care. Rahul Gandhi said about this statement that it raises serious questions about India's credibility and global economic situation. He claimed that the India-US trade agreement will be entirely on America's terms, which could harm India's domestic industries.
Rahul Gandhi, describing the BJP government's economic policies as the cause of the country's ruin, said that demonetization, the improperly implemented GST, and excessive dependence on corporates have broken the backs of the country's small traders and the middle class. He said that although everything may look good in government statistics, the ground reality is that the youth are troubled by unemployment, farmers are committing suicide, and investment is declining in the industrial sector.
Congress's Stance is Clear
The Congress party has now adopted an aggressive stance on these issues, and these points are likely to be prominently raised in the upcoming parliamentary sessions and election campaigns. Demanding accountability from the government, Rahul Gandhi said that the people of the country want to know how long they will be kept in the dark?
