A shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday in the Dhaulana tehsil of Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, when Subhash Meena, a suspended lekhpal (revenue officer) accused of bribery, consumed a poisonous substance within the tehsil premises. The incident caused a stir throughout the complex. Employees present at the scene immediately informed the police, and the lekhpal was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
CM Orders Investigation
According to information, Subhash Meena was suspended on June 3rd after complaints from villagers alleging he demanded bribes in exchange for land records. An inquiry was conducted, and a charge sheet was filed against him on July 7th. Distressed by these actions, he took this drastic step.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the matter and ordered a high-level investigation by the Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Police of the Meerut zone. The lekhpal's condition is currently reported to be stable, and he is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Serious Allegations Against the Administration
The incident of lekhpal Subhash Meena consuming poison has sparked outrage among lekhpals across the state. Members of the Lekhpal Association protested at the hospital in Hapur, accusing the administration of mental harassment. The protestors claimed that transparency was lacking in departmental proceedings, and excessive pressure was being exerted on employees.
Meanwhile, the recurring instances of corruption are raising questions about the functioning of the revenue department. The increasing actions against lekhpals have created a stir within the department.
Fake Certificate Scam in Ghazipur
A major fraud involving collusion of lekhpals has also come to light in Ghazipur district. District Magistrate Aryaka Akhauri, after an investigation, suspended 10 lekhpals. The matter pertains to the issuance of fake income certificates, which were being used to obtain government jobs, particularly for the position of Anganwadi worker.
According to the District Magistrate, the lekhpals issued fake BPL (Below Poverty Line) certificates to people living above the poverty line. The administration has identified ten such cases where applications for jobs were made based on fraudulent documents.
In these cases, nine appointments have been put on hold, and a detailed investigation of the entire matter is underway. Officials have indicated that stricter action will be taken against those found guilty in the investigation.
