Rain was recorded across several parts of Uttarakhand on Friday after weather conditions changed suddenly in the morning, leading to a drop in temperatures in multiple districts. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for rainfall, b winds and lightning in several areas.
In Mussoorie, continuous rainfall was recorded for nearly two hours on Friday morning. Following the rain, the temperature dropped to 18 degrees Celsius. However, traffic was affected in the town, with congestion reported from Kingcraig to Library Chowk from around 8 a.m., slowing vehicle movement and causing inconvenience to commuters.
Rainfall also continued in the state capital, Dehradun, from the morning hours. The change in weather resulted in lower temperatures. In Rishikesh, rain began after dense dark clouds gathered over the area. Rain was also recorded in Nainital, where temperatures declined following the change in weather conditions.
Weather conditions also changed in Kotdwar and the Tehri region. Dense cloud cover remained over Tehri district headquarters and surrounding areas, with the possibility of rainfall continuing.
According to the Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places in Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall may also occur in some areas.
The department has also forecast snowfall in regions located at elevations of 4,200 metres and above. People travelling in mountainous areas have been advised to exercise caution.
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for rainfall, b winds and lightning across most parts of the state. An orange alert has been declared for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Champawat districts.
A yellow alert has been issued for Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and other mountainous districts. The department said b winds, lightning activity and intense rainfall may occur at some locations in these areas.
According to weather experts, similar weather conditions may persist across several parts of the state over the next few days. People have been advised to follow weather warnings issued by the department and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
