Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Customs Department at the airport conducted major operations in separate cases, seizing narcotics worth a total of approximately Rs 55 crore. DRI recovered 2.178 kilograms of cocaine from a passenger who arrived from Freetown, while the Customs Department seized 34.207 kg of hydroponic weed (marijuana) in three separate cases. Several accused individuals were arrested in this operation, and the investigation is ongoing.
DRI Recovers Cocaine at Mumbai Airport
The DRI, Mumbai Zonal Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a passenger upon arrival and conducted a thorough inspection. During the inspection, packets of dates were found in the passenger's bag. When the dates were opened, a white powder was discovered in small black pellets instead of seeds. Upon testing with an NDPS field kit, the substance was identified as cocaine.
In a follow-up action, officials also arrested the potential recipient of the narcotics at the airport. The seized cocaine was confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Both accused have been arrested, and an investigation has been initiated.
Mumbai Customs Recovers Weed in Three Cases
Officials from Mumbai Customs Zone-III recovered 34.207 kg of hydroponic weed in three separate cases on October 6 and 7, 2025. In the first case, 6.377 kg of weed was found in the check-in bag of a passenger arriving from Phuket. In the second case, 17.862 kg of weed was found in the bag of a passenger arriving from Bangkok, while in the third case, 9.968 kg of weed was recovered from three passengers arriving from Phuket. All accused were arrested under the NDPS Act.
Customs officials stated that these operations are a result of continuous monitoring and strict vigilance against international drug trafficking. Further investigation is ongoing in all cases to uncover the international links of the trafficking network.
