Rain Likely in Other States of North India as well
Apart from Delhi, states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand are also likely to receive rainfall today. There is a warning of cloud cover and heavy rain in these areas. The Meteorological Department has advised the general public to be vigilant in these states.
Red Alert for Heavy Rain in Uttarakhand
There is a risk of heavy rainfall in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued a 'Red Alert' in Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. There is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in these areas. In addition, an 'Orange Alert' has also been issued in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts.
The local administration has been kept on alert and people have been appealed to avoid unnecessary travel in hilly areas. They have been advised to stay away from landslides and fast-flowing drains.
Orange Alert in Himachal Pradesh as well
A heavy rain alert has been issued in nine districts of Himachal Pradesh. These include Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these districts on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the State Emergency Center, 141 roads are currently closed in Himachal Pradesh. As of Saturday evening, 58 water supply schemes and 28 electricity transformers have been affected by the rains. The state government has put all agencies on alert mode for relief and rescue operations.
Mount Abu Receives the Highest Rainfall in Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, light to moderate rainfall has occurred in the eastern parts during the last 24 hours. Mount Abu recorded 145 mm of rainfall, which is the highest so far. Good rainfall has also been recorded in many parts of western Rajasthan. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue in North and South-Eastern Rajasthan in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Red Alert in Five Districts of Kerala
Due to continuous rains in Kerala, flood-like conditions have arisen in many areas. The India Meteorological Department has issued a 'Red Alert' in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in these areas.
Due to heavy rains, roads in many high-altitude areas have been flooded. Traffic has been affected and relief and rescue operations are underway in many places. The local administration has ordered the closure of schools and advised people to move to safer places.
Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu as well
The monsoon is fully active in South India as well. An Orange Alert has been issued for the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is expected in these districts. The weather is also disturbed in Chennai and surrounding areas. Waterlogging has occurred in many areas due to rain.
The Meteorological Department said that rainfall up to 24.4 cm may be recorded in some parts. The local administration has been asked to be prepared in advance.
Temperature Conditions in Major Cities of the Country
Amidst the rains, a drop in temperature is also being observed. The day temperature in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai is expected to remain between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius on average. In the hilly states of North India, the temperature has dropped to 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. The effect of cold is being felt in areas like Shimla and Nainital.
