Hoshiarpur Bus Accident: A tragic road accident occurred on Monday in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, claiming the lives of eight people and injuring more than 32 passengers. The accident happened near Sagra Adda in the Dasuya sub-division when a minibus overturned after losing control. A total of 40 passengers were on board the bus.
Location and Circumstances of the Accident
The accident occurred on the main road leading from Dasuya to Hajipur. As the bus reached near Sagra Adda, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. The area falls in a rural region, and the condition of the road is also under scrutiny.
Relief and Rescue Operations
Upon receiving information about the accident, senior officials from the local police and administration reached the spot. Relief and rescue operations were immediately initiated. Local villagers also joined the police in rescuing the injured from the bus and transporting them to the hospital with the help of ambulances.
Treatment of the Injured Underway
The injured passengers were immediately admitted to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya. Some seriously injured people were referred to Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar for better treatment. According to the hospital administration, the condition of several passengers remains critical.

Mukerian DSP Kulwinder Singh Virk informed that approximately 40 people were traveling on the bus at the time of the accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus was speeding. Virk stated that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the causes of the accident. It is also being examined whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or if the accident occurred due to a technical fault.
Speed as a Cause of the Accident
According to local residents and some eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling at a high speed. The bus suddenly lost balance and overturned on the side of the road. Some passengers said that the bus was already running at a fast speed and was jolting at turns.
Assistance from Local Residents
Immediately after the accident, local residents reached the spot and helped in rescuing the injured. They informed the police and ambulances and remained engaged in relief work until the administration arrived.
After the accident, the administration expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. The district administration has started the process of providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased. Special medical facilities are also being provided for the treatment of the injured.
