Jaipur: A horrific road accident occurred late on Tuesday (October 7) in Rajasthan, involving a head-on collision between a truck laden with LPG cylinders and a chemical tanker. Following this powerful impact, a massive blast took place in the cylinder truck, the sound of which was heard several kilometers away. The fire and explosion caused damage to nearby vehicles and injured several people.
The driver of the chemical tanker died on the spot in the accident, while there are fears that the cylinder truck driver was also burnt alive. However, the lives of other people present on the road remained safe. Immediately after the accident, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma dispatched Deputy CM Premchand Bairwa to the scene and instructed for a green corridor to be established to the city's major hospitals, ensuring rapid medical assistance for the injured.
25-Kilometer Long Traffic Jam on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway
The accident occurred in the Dudu area, approximately 70 kilometers from Jaipur city. The following day, Wednesday (October 8), at around 6:00 AM, a 25-kilometer long traffic jam formed on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway. It was anticipated that the jam would last for several hours due to the time required to extinguish the fire and remove the wreckage of the trucks.
The Jaipur Police Commissioner and the administrative team promptly expedited relief and rescue operations. Twenty fire brigade vehicles and ambulances were deployed at the accident site. The injured were safely and swiftly transported to hospitals via the green corridor. The administration ensured that traffic on the highway could flow safely and systematically.
Alert Issued at SMS Hospital
SMS Hospital in Jaipur was placed on alert. Teams of doctors and medical staff were fully prepared to treat the injured. After the fire was extinguished, the injured received immediate first aid, and those critically injured were admitted to the ICU.
Fragments from the cylinders falling on multiple vehicles damaged around 10-12 cars and injured more than 5 people. Flames and the sound of the explosion were seen and heard several kilometers away. After two and a half hours of strenuous effort, the fire brigade brought the blaze completely under control.
Chemical Tanker Driver Dies
The fire had spread to both the LPG cylinder truck and the chemical tanker in the accident. Due to the blast, fragments from the truck fell onto the highway and nearby vehicles. The front part of the chemical tanker also caught fire. The administration succeeded in averting a larger catastrophe through swift action.
The chemical tanker driver died, while there is a possibility that the cylinder truck driver was burnt alive. However, there was no large-scale loss of human life. Officials stated this as a relief, adding that the consequences could have been far more severe if the administrative team and fire brigade had not arrived on time.
Actions by Administration and Security Agencies
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma immediately began operating in emergency mode. Relief efforts were rapidly conducted under the leadership of Deputy CM Premchand Bairwa and the Police Commissioner. The injured were safely transported to hospitals via the green corridor, and fire brigade vehicles continuously worked to extinguish the flames.
