Sigandur Bridge Inauguration: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the Sigandur Bridge, the second-longest cable-stayed bridge in India, in Karnataka. This magnificent bridge is built over the Sharavathi backwaters, connecting the villages of Ambaragodu and Kalasavalli in the Sagar taluk of Karnataka.
The government spent ₹472 crore on the construction of this bridge. Its completion has made access to the Singandur Chowdeshwari Temple much easier and more convenient.
Why is the Singdur Bridge special?
The Singdur Bridge is a crucial infrastructure project not only for Karnataka but also for South India. This bridge is considered a milestone for the social and economic development of the region. It will provide better connectivity to local people, facilitate trade, and allow devotees to reach the Singandur Chowdeshwari Temple directly without any difficulty.
Features of this bridge
- It is the second-longest cable-stayed bridge in the country.
- It is built over the backwaters of the Sharavathi River.
- This bridge will be a boon for local villages as well as tourists.
- It will reduce both the distance and time from Sagar to Singandur Chowdeshwari Temple.
Who attended the inauguration ceremony?
Several senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were present at the inauguration ceremony of the Singdur Bridge.
- Union Minister Pralhad Joshi
- Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa
- Other local BJP leaders and officials
- However, surprisingly, no minister from the Karnataka state government or any representative of the Congress government was present at this inauguration ceremony.
CM Siddaramaiah expressed displeasure
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his displeasure on this issue, saying that he was not sent any invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony. The Chief Minister also said that the central government should adhere to constitutional norms towards the state government. Siddaramaiah's statement: "I did not receive any kind of invitation."
It is unfortunate that the central government and the BJP are not showing courtesy towards the Karnataka government. Such infrastructure projects involve contributions from both the state and the center. Representatives of the state should be respected, rising above politics.
What did Gadkari say?
In his address, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, new dimensions of infrastructure development are being established in the country. He said that the Singdur Bridge is not only for Karnataka but a marvel of engineering for the entire country. It will not only improve the transportation system but also create new opportunities for tourism and employment.
