The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the proposal to transfer 26 hectares, or about 65 acres, of barren government land in Pure Lalkhan village of Milkipur tehsil to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs free of cost. The land will be used to establish a Regional Hub of the National Security Guard (NSG) in Ayodhya.
The land, located in Pure Lalkhan village, has a reported market value of around ₹16.90 crore. Despite this valuation, it will be transferred to the Union Home Ministry without charge for the establishment of the proposed NSG regional centre.
Following the Cabinet approval, the formal process for transferring the land will move forward. The state government will transfer the land in favour of the Ministry of Home Affairs, after which the construction of the proposed NSG centre and development of other required infrastructure can proceed.
The proposed regional hub is intended to reduce response time during emergency situations. In the event of a serious security challenge or a terrorism-related incident, specially trained NSG commandos may be required. The presence of a regional centre is expected to provide a basis for relatively faster deployment to Ayodhya and surrounding areas in such circumstances.
Land has already been made available for an NSG-related security facility in Ayodhya. According to a Jagran report, around eight acres of Nazul land in the Miran Ghat area of the Cantonment has previously been provided for an NSG centre, where the construction process is reported to have begun. The proposed 65-acre regional hub in Milkipur will further expand this security infrastructure.
Security arrangements in Ayodhya have been strengthened at multiple levels following the construction and consecration of the Ram Temple. The security framework covers the temple complex as well as the large number of devotees visiting the city, major religious sites, railway station, airport and other important locations. The proposed NSG regional centre will form part of this wider security framework.
The regional hub could also provide faster access to NSG capabilities in sensitive areas surrounding Ayodhya when required. Any deployment or operation by the NSG in a specific situation will, however, be carried out in accordance with applicable security protocols and decisions of the competent agencies.
Conditions have also been specified regarding the use of the land. According to available reports, the land is to be used only for the proposed NSG regional centre. Some reports have stated that the land may have to be returned to the state government if it is not used within the prescribed period or if the requirement for it ceases in the future.
After the regional centre is established, infrastructure for the special security force is planned to be developed in Ayodhya. Detailed information regarding the construction, number of personnel to be stationed there, operational capacity and other technical arrangements will emerge as the project progresses. At present, the Cabinet-approved land transfer and establishment of the regional centre constitute the principal approved stage of the project.
Security arrangements for devotees and tourists visiting Ayodhya are already based on coordination among multiple agencies. Local police, the administration and other security agencies handle responsibilities at their respective levels. The proposed NSG regional hub would provide an additional base for the national counter-terrorism force to respond to special security situations.
The Cabinet approval means that the process for establishing the NSG regional hub on the 26-hectare, or 65-acre, barren land in Pure Lalkhan village has moved to the next stage.
