Hollywood's veteran director Christopher Nolan's upcoming film 'The Odyssey' has already set records before its release. The film's shooting is not yet complete, but its tickets have already been sold out. And that too, a year in advance.
The mere mention of Christopher Nolan makes cinema lovers' hearts race. Now, even though only a glimpse of his new film 'The Odyssey' hasn't even been revealed, it has created such a sensation that tickets were sold out a year before the release. The special thing is that neither the film's shooting is finished nor any trailer or poster has come out, yet fans are so excited that they have bought tickets without seeing anything.
Tickets Sold Out in One Minute
IMAX released tickets on Thursday for the first screening of 'The Odyssey' in 26 selected theaters around the world. These screenings will be held between July 17 and 19, 2026, but only one show will be shown in each theater because the film's length has not yet been determined.
Talking about IMAX Melbourne, about 1800 tickets for four shows were sold out there in just one night. In America, the situation was such that the tickets went out of stock in just one hour. Black marketing of tickets has also started and according to reports, tickets in America are being sold online for up to $300 to $400.
Why is there so much craze about 'The Odyssey'?
The story of this film is based on the famous epic 'Odyssey' by the Greek poet Homer. It will show the journey of the warrior Odysseus, who undertakes to return home after the Trojan War. This journey is not only geographical but also mentally, spiritually and emotionally challenging.
Matt Damon is playing the role of Odysseus in the film. Stars like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron will be seen with him. Such a b star cast and Nolan's tremendous storytelling can make it the biggest film of 2026.
Special thing about IMAX format
'The Odyssey' is being shot entirely in 1570 IMAX format, which is Nolan's favorite. It is the largest and highest-resolution film format, in which each frame is 70 mm high and has 15 perforations through which the projection machine can run it.
Nolan has previously used the same format in 'Oppenheimer', but 'The Odyssey' will be the first film to be shot entirely with this camera. The special thing is also that Nolan has got such cameras made from IMAX which are quiet enough for dialogue recording during shooting.
Fans' Craze: Tickets flying from Sydney to Melbourne
IMAX Melbourne manager Jeremy Fee says, "We consider Nolan to be like God. We never thought that we would have to sell tickets a year before the release. We even had to adjust the back-end of the ticketing system so that such long-term ticket booking could be done."
Fee said that people are booking flights from Sydney and New Zealand to come to Melbourne and watch the screening. He hopes that 'The Odyssey' will prove to be more successful than his biggest hit 'Oppenheimer' so far.
Films have been made on Odysseus before, but expectations are higher from Nolan
Films have been made on Odysseus before, such as 1954's 'Ulysses' and 2000's 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' But expectations from Christopher Nolan's film are many times higher because he not only has technology but also a tremendous art of expressing a deep story.
Such craze about films is rarely seen. Housefull shows a year in advance, black marketing of tickets and a surge in cinema tourism in theaters... all this shows that 'The Odyssey' is not just a film, it has become a cinematic event. Christopher Nolan has once again proved that his name is enough.
