Long ago, in a small village, lived a hardworking farmer named Shivanath. Shivanath spent his days from dawn till dusk tilling his fields, sowing seeds, and harvesting crops. The villagers always praised his diligence. However, a significant problem plagued his life—a stubborn rock jutted out in the middle of his field.
This rock seemed to test his perseverance. His plow had broken many times upon impact, his oxen had stumbled, and Shivanath himself had been tripped by the stone on numerous occasions. Each time, filled with anger, he would declare, "One day, I will remove you!" But the daily grind always overshadowed his resolve.
Years passed, Shivanath continued working tirelessly in his field, and the rock remained stubbornly in place. Whenever someone from the village offered help, Shivanath would bravely point to the rock and say,
"See, this is my biggest problem. It's not easy to move; it's incredibly heavy and firmly rooted."
One day, the weather was pleasant, and the birds sang merrily. Shivanath picked up his plow, ready to work, happy to have a productive day ahead. But as he plowed, his plow struck the rock again, breaking it.
That day, his patience snapped. He sat on the ground, staring at the rock, and exclaimed,
"Enough! I've endured this for years, but no more! Either you go, or I do!"
He then rushed to the village and gathered some trusted friends—Ramu, Bhola, Nathu, and two others. They were all b farmers, ready to lend a hand.
Together, they arrived at the field to remove the rock. Armed with shovels and pickaxes, they began digging around the stone. What happened next surprised Shivanath beyond measure—with just a few strikes, the rock was dislodged from the ground.
Ramu laughed, saying,
"Shivanath, it was just a small stone! You made it into such a huge problem!"
Shivanath sat there, slightly ashamed and quite surprised. He picked up the stone and reflected—the obstacle that had seemed insurmountable for years was, in reality, just a minor inconvenience. Had he tried sooner, he wouldn't have suffered this loss and wasted his efforts.
His friends consoled him,
"It's alright, Shiva. You've learned your lesson, and that's what matters."
Shivanath resolved that from then on, no matter how difficult the challenges, he would not run away but would face them head-on.
Lesson
This story teaches us that the difficulties that hold us back in life are often not as significant as we perceive them to be. Our lack of courage, fear, and procrastination magnify these obstacles. If we show a little courage and confront the "rock" before us, we realize it was just a minor hurdle. Therefore, you too must summon the courage to remove the stubborn rock in your life. Only then will life become easier and more beautiful.
