Syria and Israel Reach Ceasefire Agreement Amidst Druze-Bedouin Conflict

A significant ceasefire agreement has been reached between Syria and Israel early Saturday, announced by US Ambassador Tom Barrack. This agreement follows ongoing violent clashes between the Druze minority and Bedouin tribes in the Sweida province of southern Syria.

Jerusalem: A piece of relieving news has emerged from the turbulent regions of West Asia. A ceasefire agreement between Syria and Israel has been reached early Saturday. This agreement has sparked new hope for peace and stability in both countries and the entire region. This agreement is considered important after the recent violence between the Druze and Bedouin tribes in the Sweida province of southern Syria and the Israeli airstrikes.

The agreement was formally announced by US Ambassador Tom Barrack. He said that the agreement has the support of Turkey, Jordan, and other neighboring countries. Hopes for peace and stability in the region have now been strengthened after the ceasefire.

Druze-Bedouin Conflict Becomes Cause of Violence

For the past few days, intense violence has been ongoing in the Sweida province of Syria between the Druze minority and Sunni Bedouin tribes. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands have been displaced in these clashes. According to reports, the Syrian army openly supported the Bedouin groups in this violence. In response, Israel carried out airstrikes on the Syrian army in the name of protecting the Druze community.

Tom Barrack said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "Appeal to the Druze, Bedouin, and Sunni communities to lay down their arms and work together to build a new, unified, and peaceful Syria that moves forward in peace and prosperity with its neighbors." However, he did not disclose the terms and specifics of the ceasefire.

Israel-Druze Community Relations Deep

It is no secret that the Druze community in Israel is considered a loyal minority. A large number of Druze also serve in the Israeli army. This is the reason why Israel targeted the Syrian army in response to the attack on the Druze in Sweida.

According to reports, government security forces have been accused of murder, looting, and burning homes against Druze civilians in these clashes. According to United Nations figures, about 80,000 people have been displaced since Sunday. Water, electricity, and communication services have been disrupted in Sweida, and hospitals are under heavy pressure.

Mediation by America, Turkey, and Arab Countries

An initial agreement was reached on Wednesday through the mediation of America, Turkey, and Arab countries to stop the violence. Under this, the Druze community and their religious leaders were to take responsibility for internal security in Sweida, and the government army was to withdraw from there.

But on late Thursday night, clashes broke out again between Druze and Bedouin groups, after which the situation became uncontrollable again. After this, Israel took military action and the ceasefire agreement was brokered by US intervention on Friday night.

Ceasefire Sparks Hope of Stability

According to the US Ambassador, this ceasefire is not only an important step towards reducing tension between Syria and Israel, but it is also a positive sign for stability and peace in the entire region. Turkey, Jordan, and other neighboring countries have welcomed this agreement.

Experts believe that if this agreement is successful, the situation in Sweida can gradually return to normal and a path will open for the restoration of trust between the Bedouin and Druze communities. Currently, armed groups from both sides have been ordered to stay in limited areas and stay away from military action.
