Police have arrested the main accused, Rohit Kumar, in the Begusarai hotel rape and assault case. According to police, Rohit had been absconding since the incident and was hiding in the Mohiuddinagar area of Samastipur district while allegedly preparing to flee to Nepal. Acting on technical surveillance and information received, a special police team surrounded the area and arrested him.
The case relates to the Blue Diamond Hotel near Alka Cinema in the Begusarai Nagar police station area. According to police, an incident involving the rape and assault of a young woman and the making of a video in a hotel room came to light on September 27. A video related to the incident was subsequently circulated on social media.
Following the victim's complaint, an FIR was registered at Nagar police station on September 28. Police began investigating the case and deployed separate teams to arrest the accused.
Police said Vikram Kumar was arrested first after the FIR was registered, while Rohit Kumar remained absconding. During the search for Rohit, police received information that he was present in the Mohiuddinagar area of Samastipur district and might attempt to leave for Nepal. The police team intensified its operation in the area and arrested him after surrounding the location.
After Rohit's arrest, the police team was bringing him back to Begusarai. During the journey, he allegedly attempted to escape by asking the police to stop the vehicle on the pretext of urinating. According to police, when the vehicle slowed down, he jumped out and tried to flee.
Police personnel chased him and caught him again. He sustained a serious leg injury after falling and attempting to escape.
He was initially treated at Bachhwara Primary Health Centre and was subsequently admitted to Begusarai Sadar Hospital for further treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment in police custody. Police will question him in detail after he recovers.
According to police, Rohit Kumar, the main accused, is a resident of Damodarpur Ward No. 4 under Bhagwanpur police station. The second accused, Vikram Kumar, is associated with the Lohianagar area of Begusarai. A police report also mentions that the two are related.
Police are questioning both accused to establish all aspects of the incident.
Police have taken possession of the hotel's CCTV footage from September 27, which is being treated as important evidence in the investigation. The hotel reception's entry register has also been seized.
Investigators have examined footage relating to the hotel room and the movements of the accused and the victim. According to police, CCTV footage shows Rohit entering the hotel. Later, the footage shows the victim arriving at the hotel and both of them moving towards a room. Footage relating to their exit from the room has also been included in the investigation.
However, the final conclusion about what actually happened inside the room will be based on the investigation, medical report, the victim's statement and other evidence.
Police have also included digital evidence in the investigation. According to police, a mobile phone was recovered from the main accused. Police claim that videos related to the incident were present on the phone. The mobile phone has been seized for investigation and its digital evidence is being examined.
A complaint had also been received regarding the circulation of the video on social media, following which action was taken to block the related number.
After the incident, Superintendent of Police Manish personally supervised the investigation. Police visited the hotel and collected CCTV footage and other information.
A special investigation team was formed to arrest the main accused. Police used technical surveillance and gathered information about possible locations before reaching Mohiuddinagar in Samastipur.
According to police, both named accused were arrested within 24 hours of the registration of the FIR. Vikram Kumar was first arrested from Begusarai, followed by the arrest of Rohit Kumar in Samastipur.
Police are now questioning both accused to gather more information about the sequence of events, the circumstances in which they reached the hotel and the digital evidence.
The victim has undergone a medical examination. Her statement is also being recorded before the court.
Police said the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the legal process. The victim's complaint and statement, medical report, hotel CCTV footage, entry register, mobile phone and other digital evidence have been included in the investigation.
