Jammu and Kashmir CM Greets Public on Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi Amidst Holiday Controversy

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended his heartfelt greetings to the people on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on September 6th. He stated that this day brings a message of love, mercy, and brotherhood.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah greeted the people on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi on September 6th, describing the occasion as a symbol of love, mercy, and brotherhood. The Chief Minister prayed that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would illuminate every heart and foster peace and harmony throughout the region.

Omar Abdullah also shared this message on social media platforms. He wrote, "Eid Milad-un-Nabi Mubarak. On this day of light and remembrance, may the teachings of love, mercy, and compassion of our Prophet illuminate our hearts, guide our actions, and unite us in peace and brotherhood."

Controversy over Holiday

Amidst the festive joy, the issue of the holiday became a point of contention this time. The administration rejected the request to shift the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi holiday from September 5th to September 6th, based on the sighting of the moon. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed this decision as "deliberate" and stated that it hurt the sentiments of the common people.

Experts and local organizations opine that the administration should make more sensitive and accommodating decisions on religious occasions. They argue that the holiday issue is not limited to government employees but is connected to the sentiments of the entire community.

Dispute Last Year as Well

This is not a new issue. In 2024, there was a dispute between employees and the administration regarding the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. At that time, employees who were absent from duty due to prayers or religious reasons were marked as absent. This year too, similar circumstances have led to growing resentment among the people.

Despite the controversy, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi was celebrated with full fervor and devotion in Jammu and Kashmir. Grand arrangements were made in mosques and shrines. People participated enthusiastically in processions and prayers.
